The Huey 65-10091 was manufactured by Bell Helicopter in 1965 for the U.S. Army and deployed to Vietnam in 1966. It served with the 173rd Assault Helicopter Company, known as "The Robin Hoods," and was shot down on January 7, 1967.
The final journey of the 091 crossed American enroute to the Smithsonian Museum - Dean Hess 6-31 Alpha Co 69/70 - participated in the Colorado leg of the journey.
If you visit the "Price of Freedom Exhibit" be sure to look for the Alpha Aces patch placed in the huey by Dean.

Can Giouc, RVN ~ December 1969, LTC Jerry Carlson requested that Cpt Alex Nicolini put together a Shanghai Bowl Ceremony to be held on New Year's Eve in the officer's club. Cpt Nic has graciously shared these photos with us.

When Dan Ezso - original Ft Lewis group, Echo Co clerk was contacted, his enthusiam to reunite with his brothers prompted him to put together a story of a journey into Nam. With the help of his brothers; Al Bergeson, Ted Speroff, Gordon Russell photo collections Dan started creating. Many versions later the slide show was complete.

Del Bumann (Delta Co) his wife Corrie, and their daughter Karla participated in the May 2006 Run For The Wall. On May 17th they left California following the southern route of the run. Arriving in the DC area they were joined by their son's family.

Run For The Wall 2007 - Del & Corrie Bumann

Run For the Wall XIX began on Wednesday, May 16, from Ontario, CA. Ten days later, on Friday, May 25, the mission was completed as we rode into Washington, DC. This was our second year to ride “All the way” with the Central Route. The weather was near perfect as we rode across 10 states in as many days.

Del accepted the assignment of Platoon Leader the second day out, which added a whole new dimension to the Run. This was our daughter, Karla’s second year as a Road Guard.

On Sunday, May 27, we joined thousands of other motorcycles and riders in the Rolling Thunder XX.

Del Bumann (Delta Co) and his wife Corrie have done it again! At the 2006 Sturgis Bike Week - Del was introduced to the Patriot Guard Riders, which he promptly joined. These are photos of Del at the PGR Healing Field at Sturgis.

75 MM Recoilless Rifle Site (This Rifle was mounted on wheels and functioned like a Mortar for the NVA.

I have a 75 mm Recoilless Rifle sight (For those old Mortar Platoon guys it has aiming lights made from bamboo and wires which were connected to old discarded batteries) that I was able to send home as a “War Souvenir” with its documentation, I found this on one of our operations not too far outside the perimeter "berm" of Dong Tam itself.

Perhaps some of the former guys might get a charge out of seeing the combination of the “precision optics” in the sight mechanism combined with the crude innovative use of “bamboo” to create aiming lights to fire at night. The lights are actually sealed inside the bamboo and there is a tiny light hole no larger than about 1/16 of an inch to let the light out. I recall, as a radio operator, we were always cautioned o dispose of our used batteries in a way that they could not be reused. This shows how resourceful the enemy was and it wouldn’t take much of a battery to drive these lights at night.

They took photos of each of the 6-31st fallen and sent them in to share with us.

Kevin Murphy is a good friend of John Vassil who served with Echo Co in 68/69. Kevin found our website while searching for information for John, and has joined us in the Hooch on a few occasions.

Kevin is a man like Del Bumann, who is very active in the Run For The Wall, Rolling Thunder, Patriot Guard Riders and a supporter of the Gathering of Eagles.

In the chat, Kevin mentioned that he attended the 2006 RFTW and through conversation he found pictures of himself in Del's album. Kevin has graciously shared some of his RFTW photos with us, including those taken in Arlington.
